It’s about that time of year when most New Year resolutions start to falter, if they haven’t gone by the board already.
One of the problems of course is that January is not a good time to join a gym to get fit, or start a diet to get rid of the excess weight we’ve put on gradually over the past couple of months.
It’s those still dark evenings, the cold, rain or snow that makes us decide that we’ll give this one trip

The other day, one of my clients was asking me how she could burn more fat to lose weight. We both knew that eating more healthily without snacking and being more active were important, but she wondered if there is a way to increase the rate at which she could burn off fat.
Most people now know that our bodies use sugars for energy and that what our bodies don’t need for energy at the time of eating is stored as fat. This is our reserve for when we need energy but there is no

As with so many things in life, when we’ve spent most of that life, or many years of it at least following bad habits or practises, changing things can seem just too big a challenge. This is equally true when it comes to losing weight.
I see many clients who come to me for weight loss hypnotherapy who have spent years either over eating or eating wrongly and or under-exercising, but who want instant weight loss. Many think of hypnotherapy as a ‘silver bullet’ th

That is a question that must be asked by so many people, especially those who have “tried every diet” and who in desperation or frustration are turning to other forms of therapy, whether it is acupuncture, emotional freedom technique or another of the growing number of alternative therapies available.
As an Edinburgh based Hypnotherapist I’m obviously biased and wo

As a Hypnotherapist specialising in weight loss, I am acutely conscious that there is a lot more involved than just eating too much and not being active enough.
I have heard people say that obese people shouldn’t be served with fast foods, etc., that they should be penalised in some other way; that they should get out and exercise more, it’s their own fault.
And so the litany goes on.But their is a way to help.

Can weight loss affirmations help with weight loss? Yes they can in as much as they can keep you focused on your goal of losing weight. But there are some important things you have to bear in mind and put into practise when making them up and using them. So, following the basic rules below can increase your likelihood of success.
It may seem silly or obvious, but this is important. First, make sure it is your goal and not somebody else’s. You have to want to do it. You have to be prepared to make the changes necessary for losing weight. Just repeating a few affirmations on their own is unlikely to achieve much. See my p

Setting goals for weight loss is much the same as setting goals for anything else, the process is the same. However, it’s a sad fact that people spend more time planning for their holidays than they do for their lives, and that includes losing weight.
After all, as with any journey, and successful weight loss is a journey, if you only have a vague idea of where you want to go, how can you plan your route and equip yourself for it? So, to be of help, this blog post will take you thro

Yesterday (6 January) was statistically the most depressing day of the year, not bad for just 6 days into the year!
Interestingly, the Telegraph published an article on 5 Jan 2014 describing a recent report from two experts that suggested depression drugs were being prescribed to patients who were not depressed but sad. They further suggested that the issue included over diagnosis and the use of long term prescriptions. Their recommendations included stopping pharma companies marketing their anti-depressants direct to physicians and a tightening up of criteria for ascertaining depression as opposed to mild depression, anxiety or sadness, for which anti-depressants have no real benefit but

Giving up smoking has many health benefits and can reduce your risk of heart disease, cancer and stroke; damage to the lungs and airways can even be naturally reversed by quitting. However, not only this, but it can also help heal your wallet. The average smoker can save thousands over the course of a year by quitting.
There are numerous ways to quit smoking effectively but hypnotherapy has been found to be particularly useful because it subconsciously helps you to break a habit – exactly what smoking is. In fact a recent meta s

According to Google, this was No. 9 in their Top 10 ‘How to?’ searches for 2015. I guess there are two easy ways. One is buy the latest fad diet book or celebrity DVD, which should relieve you of quite a few £££s, or you could stop drinking too much liquid and let dehydration do its work – definitely not recommended though!
I understand that another search term near the top of Google’s list for 2015 was ‘How to Lose Belly Fat?’ Sadly, the human body does not lose fat selectively, i.e. from selected parts only. It loses it generally from all places at the same time.
