According to the NHS, “stress is the feeling of being under too much mental or emotional pressure.”

Are you feeling under pressure?

If this is you, don’t feel ashamed that you can’t cope. Understand that what is acceptable for one person is overload for another.

However,  stress is also cumulative, so even a minor, seemingly insignificant additional burden might be the ‘final straw’ that creates that ‘too much.’

Remember too that stresses can arise from many causes, e.g. financial, family, death, marriage, work, school, bullying and more.

Are you that person suffering?

Let’s just recap on the most common signs of stress:

  • Problems sleeping
  • Exhaustion and sleeping too much
  • Sweating
  • Loss of appetite
  • Poor concentration
  • Inability to solve even simple mproblems
  • Irritability
  • Worrying with perhaps the same thoughts going round and round in your head
  • Self-medication with alcohol, smoking or drugs
  • Headaches, tension in certain muscles
  • Dizziness

How Therapy Can Help

If you are feeling one or more of these symptoms over a prolongued period, signs are you might be suffering from stress.

While stress itself is not an illness, it can lead to serious illnesses and issues. It is important therefore to deal with it as early as possible before it takes a hold.

Hypnotherapy and related therapies can help you. They will stabilise, and manage your situation to improve your ability to cope in future. It is very often a matter of regaining perspective of the issues that are overwhelming you.

You will also learn self-hypnosis and other techniques to help you relax.

Stress can alter the production of hormones to the detriment of good health. Also, poor eating patterns can have a negative effect on important vitamin and mineral absorption. Guidance on nutritional therapy might then be indicated.

Most people recognise that we all need some stress in our lives; it helps us to rise to challenges. We mostly also recognise that even boredom can be a source of stress. It’s the overload that does the damage.

Don’t wait too long. The earlier you catch it, the easier it will be to deal with.

Just thought I'd update you on my driving after my session with you. I now have my new car and today took it for a run to Peebles which I wouldn't have contemplated in the past. I am also quite a regular at the new Morrison store in Dalkeith - which I thought I would never be able to do either. So thank you for your help. I don't know what you do but whatever it is it certainly works.

I want to thank you for identifying my low self-esteem and not confidence. This has made me stand up for myself and deal with things instead of thinking other people will sort it all outfor me - so thank you very much.

Step2Change helped me to cease a 33 year, 20 a day habit in which I had smoked 240,740 cigarettes at a cost (in today's prices) of £72,270 and spent over 20,000 non-productive hours doing it! Do I recommend Step2Change? You bet!
